Endress+Hauser's new RMA42 DIN rail transmitter cleverly combines all the features you require in a process transmitter with the simple operation you need in the field.

The RMA42 is a temperature transmitter, loop power supply, barrier and limit switch all in one device, with up to two intrinsically safe universal inputs. In addition to the typical current, resistance or voltage signal, resistance thermometers or thermocouple types can now be directly connected to the device.

Through predefined mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, average, multiplication), quick calculations can now be easily performed. What's more, two independent 32-point linearization tables allow the simple calculation of additional information e.g. calculating volume from the level, so that you get maximum performance with minimum fuss! 

Safety ensured

With the help of optional relays, limit values can be monitored to improve process control, making the RMA42 ideal for operation in safety-relevant applications such as overfill protection according to WHG (Water Resources Act) or as temperature limiter (two-step control). The integrated analog current and voltage outputs make the integration into control systems possible. An additional open collector output informs the device status, with the measured value and the cables monitored in accordance with NAMUR NE43 recommendations.

Performance in the field

With a wide voltage range of 20-250 V, the RMA42 accepts both AC and DC supply. The integrated, intrinsically safe loop power supply powers measuring devices and transmitters in the hazardous area, eliminating the need for additional active barriers. This auxiliary supply output is provided for each universal input and is galvanically isolated from the system and the outputs. Better still, with its loop wiring, the HART signal is never interrupted.

The RMA42's high contrast backlit display provides clear information, even in dark control cabinets. In addition to the measured value display, the TAG, engineering unit and bar graph can also be displayed. The RMA42 has every eventuality covered: in the event of an error, the display flashes red to give a visual alert.

In addition to intuitive operation, the RMA42 offers quick and easy commissioning realized by application packages for standard 1-channel operation, standard 2-channel operation and electrical differential pressure measurement. The application packages provide a parameter preset to simplify commissioning. For user-defined commissioning, the RMA42 can be quickly set up using the free FieldCare software, with help texts used as support where necessary. 

Secure storage

Equipped with a data logging function, the RMA42 continuously records the minimum and maximum values of each input along with any calculated values. Events are also logged, i.e. an error or a violated limit value is listed in the historical diagnosis. Up to six events in combination with the number of operating hours can be stored in the ring buffer. And, should you need to re-commission a device (e.g. after power failure) or conduct a plant test, the set-up of the device is safely stored in the non-volatile memory.
